This is the cake i submitted to the "Going Green" competition.

Inspired by the song "Paved Paradise"

I won FIRST place in the professional decorated cake.
And i won best cake OVERALL!

I got a glass plate, a bottle of champagne (though im only 20, haha), a year's subscription to Table Magazine (a pittsburgh food mag) and I get FEATURED on Table Mag!!! im so excited!!!

EDIT: The apples are NOT real! they are carved out styrofoam spheres covered in fondant and then painted with food coloring!

Wow, the apples look great and so real. I love how you added the bees. Nice touch.

Congrats on winning. You deserved it.

This looks wonderful. I love how you've captured the color variations in the skin of the apples and the grain in the wood of the bucket. The concept is really creative.

Congratulations on a well earned win. :D

It looks great, but the styrofoam doesnt looks like something going into the concept of organic farms...Why not use something easy to carve and edible, like, apples ;) ?

What the point of carving unedible thing to make it look like a cake ?
May be I didnt get it at all ! I am used to well presented cakes but all is edible in it...
Different kind of prepared sugar are used to sculpt. I have shots in my father professionnal book ( an old book ) pièces that range to simple to very very complex. A mix of prepared sugar and egg white is also used sometimes ; and of course chocolate is a material of choice to sculpt, white ( that is not really tasty...) is like soap and can be colored easily. Those pieces are made for gala "buffets".

On the other hand, food photography use sometimes vax and non-edible things instead of real things, and that's another matter. So if it is for shots only, it's logical, but for culinary art, I wonder.
