Pink Wedding by Heidilu22 Pink Wedding by Heidilu22
This cake was my baby saturday (6-6-09)... i worked on it from 9am til 3:30pm... i had to cover all the cakes in fondant, pin 2 ribbons around each cake to make a straight guideline for piping the royal icing dots (and if you've never worked with royal icing just know that its really difficult piping out of a tiny cake tip so i had carpel tunnel about 1 hour into piping this nonsense)... then i had to pipe all the green vines in royal icing and then attach the royal icing flowers (over 80 flowers on the cake that i piped 2 days in advance so that they could dry).... then i piped all the leaves and the flower centers. i assembled the cake on site and this is how it looked! hope you enjoy it, it was a lot of effin work!

This is beautiful!
I love your flowers. I've never done royal icing flowers before, only fondant ones. Do you pipe each petal individually or is it a special style of nib?

kinda hard to explain... i pipe each petal individually with a rose/flower tip onto parchment squares and let them dry for a whole day then when needed you just peel them right off the paper! lol

Beautiful cake!

CAn I give you a tip I was given a couple of years ago

When you have to fix ribbon round the base of the cake, instead of using royal icing.

Put the ribbon under water, wring it out by sliding the ribbon from one end to the other between two fingers to squeeze out the water.

Wrap around the cake.

The ribbon will dry and bond to the icing, leaving no smears or marks, but will be very easy to peel off ready to cut!

ps Love your piped flowers!

That is an awesome tip! I wouldn't have thought of doing that. I hate how the icing makes the ribbon change colour, it just looks so unsightly and can mess up an otherwise perfect cake.
I will so do this next time! Thanks :D
